LEARN: AI GUIDES

AI Guides

These guides explain, for restaurant owners and in plain language wherever possible, how an AI chooses a restaurant when a guest asks it for help finding one, and why your restaurant sometimes does not appear. One question per article, and the conclusion is at the top of each article.

Read in any order. To understand the mechanism first, start with “How do AIs choose which restaurants to recommend?” To find out why your own restaurant does not appear, start with “Why doesn't ChatGPT recommend my restaurant?” How we measure a restaurant's visibility is published on our Methodology page.

GUIDE 01: WHY YOU DON'T APPEAR

Why doesn't ChatGPT recommend my restaurant?

The reasons an AI does not name your restaurant are not necessarily about taste or popularity. We sort out the “information-side” reasons: too little information an AI can cite, and information that disagrees from place to place.

GUIDE 02: HOW IT WORKS

How do AIs choose which restaurants to recommend?

An AI answer is built by reading the conditions in the question, gathering public information from across the web, and assembling it into sentences. We explain the line between the information an AI can “see” and the information it cannot.

GUIDE 03: REVIEWS

Do reviews affect AI recommendations?

Reviews are one of the public sources AIs draw on. We sort out what about them (their number, their recency, their content) actually carries information, and why reviews alone are not enough, keeping the question of guarantees separate.

RESEARCH

RESEARCH NOTE 001: EXPERIMENT

We asked AIs in Ginza: change one condition, and the recommendations change

A record of an experiment: 90 asks to 3 AIs, across 3 situations and 2 languages. The same restaurant appeared 12 times out of 30 for vegetarian questions, but only 1 time out of 29 for a general dinner question.

HOW WE CHECK

How we check

01 AppearancesWe ask AIs questions guests are likely to use, and count whether the restaurant in question is named.
02 Which restaurants appeared insteadWhen it does not appear, we record which restaurants the AI recommended instead.
03 Descriptions that do not match the factsWe check whether details in the answers (hours, location, and so on) disagree with the official information.
04 Repeat, and report sharesAI answers vary every time. We never turn a single result into a score; we report “how many times out of how many.”

The full measurement items and principles are published on the Methodology page. These guides rewrite, for a general reader, the “information-side” problems that this measurement brings to light.

Measure where your restaurant stands with an AI Visibility Check

These articles are general. The reason a particular restaurant does not appear differs from restaurant to restaurant.

With NIXUMA's AI Visibility Check, we ask several AIs repeatedly, using questions guests actually use, and report whether your restaurant was named, which restaurants were named instead, and whether anything said did not match the facts. The method is published on the Methodology page.

The service is currently in testing ahead of its formal release. For a release notice or a test-restaurant enquiry, email us, a single sentence is fine.

Requests and reports all happen in writing, by email and similar. We never call during your service hours. For the full overview, see the AI Visibility for Restaurants page.
